Get Me Ron Perlman! Alec Baldwin Joins Tom Cruise on ‘Rock of Ages’

Highlights of this week’s casting news included Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor, winner of a Best Original Score Oscar along with co-composer Atticus Ross for their music on The Social Network. Reznor and Ross signed on to score director Timur Bekmambetov’s graphic novel adaptation Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. According to London’s Guardian, Reznor added another line to his showbiz resume by agreeing to play the vampire who killed Lincoln’s mother and helped turn the future president into a vampire slayer.

Catherine Zeta-Jones joined the cast of Lay the Favorite, director Stephen Frears’ adaptation of Beth Raymer’s memoir about the world of high-stakes gambling. Empire reported that Zeta-Jones signed on to play the wife of Bruce Willis’ gambler with Rebecca Hall in the leading role.

Director Adam Shankman announced via Twitter that 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin (above) joined his New Line musical Rock of Ages as ex-rocker Dennis Dupree who runs the Rock of Ages nightclub. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin joined Julianne Hough and Mary J Blige and Tom Cruise for the adaptation of the popular Broadway show.

Finally, after months of speculation over who would step in for Emma Stone (scheduling issues) and play the female lead in 21 Jump Street, Deadline reported that Brie Larson joined Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum for the adaptation of the ‘80s TV show from co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Larson played a recurring role on the cable drama United States of Tara and appeared in Greenberg and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Now, if only Lord and Miller would say something about Johnny Depp making a cameo as his 21 Jump Street character undercover cop Tom Hanson.
